We talk to Ruby our Senior Account Manager and learn about what her job involves, what she enjoys and finds challenging within her role as well as finding out some of her personal goals and hobbies.
What is your job role at We Are Amnet?
I am currently Senior Account Manager within our Client Services team, based in the UK. I manage integrated agency partnerships and direct to brand relationships for a range of clients globally, with a focus on EMEA.
What does a typical day look like?
My day starts catching up with emails with a cup of herbal tea, these will be from the various clients and teams we work with whose day has already started due to the timezones they span. Each morning we have an Account Management call with our Commercial Director to align ourselves for the day ahead. We then have a call with our Operations leads based in India to share information, recognise good work and identify any potential production challenges together.
After this, it’s on to the business of the day which could include new business and client meetings, preparing materials and presentations for account calls and general account admin as well as internal growth and development initiatives. Although Operations in India are roughly 5 hours ahead of us, we overlap with clients timezones to ensure their needs are met so communications, meetings and production can continue into the night.
What are some of the challenges you face?
A key challenge I face is finding opportunities to change potential clients’ perceptions of offshoring by educating them about Smartshoring. Luckily, our clients are some of our biggest advocates and they often actively promote us within their wider businesses and networks.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
I really enjoy the close working relationships we are able to form with both our clients and internal teams, as we aim to work as a seamless extension of their team. Working in this way means we benefit from honest and candid feedback both ways, and we can also have fun in the process.
I also enjoy working with our highly skilled and experienced teams in India, we are able to share a universe of knowledge between our teams and I feel like I learn from them every day. Our business is built on integrity and sharing and those values are lived from the board to our operators everyday.
What did you do before working at We Are Amnet?
Before joining Amnet, I worked in project and account management roles with a variety of production and creative agencies including Hogarth, BBH and 400 Communications focusing on global multi-channel campaigns, brand identity, corporate communications and events. I have even spent time client-side at Zalando in Berlin managing a corporate design team. The financial services, FMCG and automotive sectors are areas I have plenty of experience in.
Do you have any personal or career goals?
My personal goal is to find fulfilment through balance in my personal and work life. Career-wise, my goal is to continue developing and broadening my knowledge in the off-shore space to become a trusted strategic partner for our clients. I am also very much looking forward to meeting our team in India!
Do you have any hobbies outside of your work?
I enjoy making and creating in all forms so I am often darting between printmaking and multimedia pieces to layering recordings of myself wailing over the piano on multiple cassette decks to get that bubbly, tape stretched sound. I also enjoy long urban walks and recently walked from Grays to Purfleet along the Thames which includes a pass by the Procter & Gamble factory (which smells like laundry softener) and walking underneath the QE2 bridge.
What was the last book you read/podcast you listened too?
The last book I read is ‘Design as Art’ by Bruno Munari which written at the cusp of the 1970s, the era of artists such as Jenny Holzer and Cindy Sherman. It is a snappy overview of some key ideas in visual communication at the time, a brilliant book to read if you find energy and direction in the objectivity of design and, as a bonus, it is written in the gratifyingly sassy tone of a man with conviction in his ideas.
